Young Social Innovators awards 2018

Last week on May 8th, Croke Park hosted over 800 young people who were taking part in the 2018 Young Social Innovators event. 30 teams were selected to present their projects and compete for the overall title of Young Social Innovators of the Year Ireland.

Set up by Rachel Collier and Stansilaus Kennedy in 2001, the young social innovators of the Year Award exists to celebrate youth-led social innovation and has the distinguished title of being Ireland’s largest social awareness and active citizenship and education programme for 15 to 18-year-old teens. The aim is to get Ireland’s young people engaged in action which helps improve the lives of others in their community.

The teams have been hard at work throughout the year, covering a varied range of important topics; from online safety, public health, personal well-being, road safety, anti-social behaviour and mental health to name but a few.

Since 2001, over 100,000 young people have taken part and thousands of team-based, action-focused projects and social enterprises have been helping build better communities for people in Ireland, young and old.

We at VSware are proud to announce that one of our very own schools, Ardscoil Mhuire, Limerick came in as the overall winners with their fantastic project on safe online and phone communication between young people.
